WSBTV.com - News - TIMELINE: Panda Reproduction Efforts: "TIMELINE: Panda Reproduction Efforts
POSTED: 5:39 am EDT September 7, 2006
ATLANTA -- Here is a reproduction timeline provided by Zoo Atlanta:
March 28-30: Ovulation and Attempted Mating
After hormone levels indicated ovulation was approaching, the pair was put together to allow breeding to take place. Although Yang Yang and Lun Lun both exhibited normal behaviors, attempts at mating were unsuccessful this year. Zoo Atlanta staff believed the behavior observed was encouraging for future mating attempts.
March 29 & 30: Artificial Insemination
After determining that the pair was unlikely to successfully breed this year because of behavioral inexperience, Zoo Atlanta employed artificial insemination. This procedure has resulted in many giant panda pregnancies and has no effect on future natural efforts to reproduce. Fresh semen was collected from Yang Yang for insemination.
March 31 – August 6: Tracking Possible Pregnancy and Preparation for Birth
Zoo Atlanta continued hormone tracking, recording behavior and used ultrasound to detect a possible pregnancy as well as prepared the nursery for potential birth(s).
August 7: Birth Watch
Zoo Atlanta initiated 24-hour watch based on hormonal changes that are consistent with pregnancy and pseudo-pregnancy, a phenomenon in which the behavioral and hormonal signs of pregnancy are exhibited but the female panda is not actually pregnant. Lun Lun continued to show normal activity and received her usual diet (bamboo and high fiber biscuits) until August 12 when her activity level began to decrease. This is normal for both pregnancy and pseudo-pregnancy."

Houston We Have A Problem

Beyonce just released the 2nd Single off her B-day Album called "Ring The Alarm". I think that we have a problem. We get horrific tracks like this when you record an entire album in two weeks. When your dad is a control freak and wants to control every aspect of your life. You have to record an album in secret and use your own money.

Here are some lyrics:

“Ring the Alarm! I’ve been doin’ this too long. But I’ll be damned if I see another chick on your arm.”

If you've got problems at home I don't think that a cd is a good way to deal with relationship issues.
Looks Like She Walks in A Room and Says Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I love Beyonce and Jay-Z but I love these pictures of what their kids will look like. The person who did this is great with photoshop.

1...2.3.4.5 Cynthia don't take no jive.

I really have to find that sound clip and post on here.

Cynthia McKinney will probably file a grievance with the board of elections citing voter fraud. I do believe there were some issues with the Diebold Machines in Dekalb and Gwinnett Counties.

Here's a copy of the conservative.com email trying to oust her.

Get Cynthia McKinney OUT of Congress: Click below to Help Elect a Republican to McKinney's Seat!

Donate Now!
This CONSERVATIVE ALERT is a special message for Noah Swint from the RightMarch.com PAC:

ALERT: Did you hear the one about the Congresswoman assaulting the cop?

No, this isn't a joke.

As you probably know, Rep. Cynthia McKinney, the radical left-wing Democrat from Georgia, decided not too long ago to go AROUND one of the metal detectors in the U.S. Capitol building. Many Members of Congress do that, so that's fine -- as long as they wear their official Member's pin to identify them.

There are over 600 legislators that go in and out of the Capitol every day. That little pin is the only way the Capitol police have of quickly and easily identifying those Members.

And Cynthia McKinney refuses to wear one.

Then, when she's stopped by the cops -- as happened this time -- she screams "racism" and "discrimination". This time, she even slugged the cop.

That meant she faced getting hit too -- with an ARREST warrant, which should have been issued right away. But a Grand Jury decided to let her off the hook... this time.

Well, you and I know that she doesn't deserve to be let off the hook -- which is why NOW is the time to get her OUT of Congress, AGAIN.

Now, if you don't know who Cynthia McKinney is, let me give you a quick reminder: This radical Democrat is the one who recklessly accused President Bush of willfully withholding information about the September 11th terrorist attacks.

During a radio interview, she said:

"What did this administration know and when did it know it, about the events of September 11th? Who else knew, and why did they not warn the innocent people of New York who were needlessly murdered? ... What do they have to hide?"

McKinney went on to suggest that President Bush held back the alleged information because his friends in the defense industry would profit from a war.

Like the rest of America, I was shocked -- I couldn't believe that she would say such dangerous and irresponsible things, especially while we're at war!

But she didn't stop there with her outrageous behavior.

Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal offered New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani a check for $10 million dollars after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center -- if Giuliani would say that U.S. foreign policy played a key role in driving the terrorists to their cowardly acts.

Giuliani refused, saying, "There is no moral equivalent for this attack. The people who did it lost any right to ask for justification when they slaughtered 5,000, 6,000 innocent people... Not only are those statements wrong, they're part of the problem."

But Cynthia McKinney APOLOGIZED for Mayor Giuliani's courageous stand, and wrote the Saudi prince a shameless letter BEGGING for his money!

At that time, the voters declared, "It's high time for McKinney's days in Congress to end." She was defeated in a Democrat primary, in a strong Democrat district.

But two years later, like some bad B-movie horror flick, Cynthia McKinney returned... and was re-elected to Congress.

Now, we have a chance to get her out again -- and replace her with a REAL, *conservative* Republican!

You see, McKinney's congressional district boundaries have been changed, which means that a viable GOP challenger would have a chance to win that seat -- IF the Republican was running against a little-known Democrat.

And guess what -- McKinney is facing a runoff election against a little-known Democrat, and the polls say he's AHEAD by 2-to-1!

Obviously, even Democrats are ready for a change in that District -- and thankfully, there's a viable Republican candidate that is running there, ready to deliver REAL change:

CATHERINE DAVIS.

Davis, a resident of Stone Mountain, Georgia, is a magna cum laude graduate of Tufts University, and an alumnus of the University Of Bridgeport School Of Law. Catherine served on the transition team for then-Governor George Allen (R-VA), and also coordinated community outreach efforts for Governor Allen's welfare reform initiative. Catherine is currently a Human Resources Manager for Sprint, and is an active member of numerous civic and religious organizations. She's strong on all the RIGHT issues: anti-illegal immigration, anti-tax, pro-life, pro-guns, and more!

Here's what it boils down to: Cynthia McKinney is likely to lose her primary. Catherine Davis can BEAT McKinney's opponent in the general election...

But ONLY if she has enough money to continue to get her name in front of the voters of that district!

https://secure.responseenterprises.com/rightmarchpac/?a=7

This newly-redrawn district was originally created to be a very heavily-weighted minority district, which was supposed to vote in McKinney's favor. A new Insider Advantage poll, though, shows the Democrat challenger leading McKinney 46 to 21 percent in the 4th District congressional race. The new district is only 53 percent African-American -- and the latest polls show that an overwhelming number of white voters surveyed, who make up 42 percent of the 4th District electorate, said they were OPPOSED to McKinney.

Republican nominee Catherine Davis, a member of the National Black Republican Association, has a GREAT chance to win this historically Democrat seat. And as you know, the GOP is going to need every seat it can get this Fall!

RightMarch.com PAC has endorsed Davis, and we're supporting her financially AND with multiple mailings in Georgia -- but we need YOUR help to give her that support! Comcast-Motorola New Cablebox Mini

I thought the cableguy was connecting up a cable modem when I saw this little box in his hand. Granted I saw the ad for the new small box but I just kinda bypassed it thinking that it was a new Motorola Cable Modem. I don't have to go buy a new tv stand now. It fits conveniently on top of my tv next to the dvd player. Motorola has come up with a sure hit.

Dallas Austin Imprisoned In Dubai On Drug Charges

Shut yo mouf and say it ain't so

Hitmaker Dallas Austin has been in a Dubai prison for more than a month on drug charges, local authorities have confirmed.

Austin, 33 — who's worked with TLC, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Pink, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and many others over his 17-year career — was traveling to Dubai to attend Naomi Campbell's three-day birthday party at the Burj Al Arab hotel when he was detained at Dubai International Airport on May 19. He is currently being held at Al Rashidiya prison, where he is being allowed visitors. The U.S. Consulate is attempting to assist Austin, police confirmed, but the consulate declined to provide further information.

While Dubai police did confirm that Austin is being held on drug charges, they stopped short of accusing him of trafficking, which can result in a death-penalty sentence in the United Arab Emirates, the Persian Gulf nation in which Dubai is located. Instead, officers characterized the amount of drugs Austin is alleged to have had in his possession as small, indicating it would likely have been for personal use.

A clerk at the Dubai Court of First Instance referred to the charges as "possessing and taking drugs," which could mean that Austin was allegedly seen taking drugs, or that traces of drugs were allegedly in his system. Under U.A.E. law, the presence of restricted drugs and medication in the body can count as possession — even if an individual used a substance before arriving in the country. A British woman named Tracy Lewis was held for eight weeks in a Dubai jail in 2005 after testing positive for prescription drugs codeine and temazepam — even though codeine is available over-the-counter in England and one of the drugs found in her system was prescribed to her at the Dubai airport clinic.

Even a small quantity of a controlled substance (which can include some over-the-counter U.S. drugs and even poppy seeds) can result in a four- to 15-year sentence in the U.A.E. However, police estimated that Austin would likely receive a sentence of one to two years, depending on the results of their ongoing investigation. Dubai police did not specify whether Austin possessed cocaine, as some news outlets reported Friday, but did say that he allegedly possessed marijuana.

Sources close to Austin suggest that the producer aroused suspicion when, after first going through airport security upon arrival, he went back to retrieve something he had forgotten on the plane. The sources said any cocaine in Austin's possession must have been a trace residue in a borrowed traveling bag.

The sources also said that Austin may have possessed the sleeping aid Ambien (also called Sonata or Zaleplon), which is not considered a narcotic but is on the U.A.E.'s list of restricted medications.

Austin is scheduled to enter a plea at the Dubai Court of First Instance on July 2.

Michael Savage Rocks

I do believe that Michael Savage has an uncanny foresight into the workings of world as we know it. He is able to decipher the daily news and get down to the meat of the real issue. I have been listening to Michael for the past year and in the span of time he has uncovered the sordid details of Able Danger, Portgate, Duke Lacrosse Case, and a Katrina Fiasco. He says that things that we think but could never say in our society of political correctness.

Linksys WRT54GS with OpenWrt Firmware

I love Linksys network appliance mods. This is my second linksys device mod in my network mix.

The WRT54GS is a basic 54G wireless router. The secret is that is has the linux os installed on it. With that being said when the source code was released the flood gates opened. I installed a 3rd part firmware called OpenWrt.The downside is that back in January, Linksys changed out the os on the routers to VxWorks. It's a proprietary OS that is pretty useless. The only place left to get them are on ebay and you're gonna pay a little hefty fee (about 20% extra). There are a few 3rd party modifactions for it but Linksys also reduced the total amount of ram on the newer routers.

With the modified firmware, it turns the router into a mini-pc. I was able replace a server that was performing the duties of this router. Not only does it perform it's regular Wireless, DHCP, and routing, but it now has an agile firewall that I can customize and about 100 software package including Asterisk, the opensource Voip Server. A 200MHz processor can do all that. I setup my router first and got all the firewall rules setup before I placed it in front of my network. I shutdown the interfaces on the server, swapped out the rj-45 cables from my modem, reset my switches and turned on the router. I was down for a few minutes while I updated my dns servers on all my workstations. And for the first time in a year I got a new ip from my cable provider. With every network change behind my modem I get a new ip.

Sony Ericsson w600i and Linux

I will add more updates as they come. I was able to connect to GPRS/Edge using Bluetooth and the USB Cable using Fedora Core 5.

I'll post my steps shortly.. Needed to create an entry for the report.
===================
These steps are for Fedora Core 5 and the w600i.

You need to install all the bluez and gnome-bluetooth files. Fire up yum search to check those out.

    GPRS/Edge Connection Over Bluetooth
  • service bluetooth start

  • Turn on bluetooth and make your phone discoverable
  • hcitool scan

  • Make a note of the mac address of your phone
  • I edited my /etc/bluetooth/rfcomm.conf file.. don't know if that made any difference

  • rfcomm0 {
    # Automatically bind the device at startup
    bind no;

    # Bluetooth address of the device
    #real mac here
    device 00:00:00:00:00:00;

    # RFCOMM channel for the connection
    channel 1

    # Description of the connection
    comment "W600i";
    }

  • I created a little shell script to start up the connection as needed. I don't want to always connect when I plug in my dongle. I'm missing some bnep steps. I will add later

    #!/bin/bash
    /sbin/modprobe pand
    /usr/sbin/pand --connect 00:00:00:00:00:00 & #real mac here
    /bin/sleep 10 &
    /sbin/ifconfig bnep0 up &
    /sbin/dhclient bnep0 &

    GPRS/Edge Connection Over USB Cable
  • I used NetworkManager to simplify the ppp connection and treat it like a regular modem
  • Plug in the USB Cable and connect it to your phone. Open up a console and run dmesg

    cdc_acm 1-1:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
    cdc_acm 1-1:1.3: ttyACM1: USB ACM device

  • Goto the Network Configuration... System--Administration--Network
  • Add a new Connection by selecting New.. Modem Connection.. click on Forward
  • For the phone number I typed in *99***1# that's the Profile for my provider for Edge
  • Provider.. preferably you're cell providers name.. username and password can be anything.. at least for Cingular
  • Forward.. then apply
  • File Save
  • in the console look for the file ifcfg-Providername

    cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

  • Edit the file. My MODEMPORT= was wrong. It was pointed to /dev/input/ttyACM0 that didn't exist

    MODEMPORT=/dev/ttyACM0

  • Now tou should be able to left click on the NetworkManager icon in the notification panel and under Dialup Connections there will be a connect and a disconnect for your provider.

Let me know how your experience differs

Home Automation 101

For my automation projects I'm using X10

X10 is an industry standard for communication among devices used for automation. It primarily uses powerline wiring for signalling and control, where signals involve short radio frequency bursts representing digital information. A radio-based transport is also defined.

Automation Controller
Misterhouse (Free) - http://www.misterhouse.net
  • Perl Based Automation Program.
  • Runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX and Windows
  • Serial CM11A Adapter... sends signals from the computer over the powerline
  • W800RF32A X10 RF receiver. It receives:

    * All 256 house/unit code addresses
    * All regular X10 RF commands (on, off, dim, brighten, etc.)
    * Extended 32 bit RF commands, such as those transmitted by X10's “Entertainment Anywhere” remotes and X10 security modules such as the DS10.

    Activehome Pro ($49.99) - http://www.activehomepro.com/
  • Windows Based Automation Controller
  • Controls modules based on time, date ,and state of other modules
  • USB X10 CM15A Power adapter.. sends signals from the computer over the power line
  • Monitors cameras.. records video when motion is detected, pictures are snapped and sent to my cell and email

    Automation Server
  • Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Server, with 1GB of Ram, 300 GB hard drive with additional 1TB of storage using NFS and Samba with other hard drives on the network and more with the card slot readers on the computer
  • Case
  • Processor
  • Memory
  • Hard Drive
  • Dual Layer CD/DVD Burner
  • Redhat Fedora 9 OS
  • PVR Form Factor
  • Digium X100P FXO Card interfaces the voip line with the Asterisk PBX
  • Win TV PVR350 Capture Card to record television. Outputs to it's own unused cable channel
  • HDHomeRun - Networked Digital HDTV Tuner. I can watch/record unencrypted digital and hdtv content using mythtv and/or VLC.
  • Mythtv to coordinate television recordings and scheduling. I used another computer with a cheaper capture card to record programming on another channel when the PVR 350 is in use.
  • Misterhouse Home Automation Program
  • Provides: DHCP, Firewall, DNS, File/Music/Movie Shares, VPN, Web Server, Email, Database

    Wiring

I've wired most of the jacks in my house for telephone, ethernet, and cable tv. This was accomplished by using what is called bundled cable or speedwrap. In a 1" diameter cable contains 2 coax cables and 2 cat5e networking cables. I'm only using one of the coax cable connections but I was only going to wire the entire house once so why not prepare for the future. One of the cat5e cables is used for data and the other is used for telephone. All the cable collect at a structured wiring media cabinet. The Leviton company makes these neat telephone and ethernet connectors where you just lie the exposed ends of the cable, punch them in and insert them into the wall outlet.

    Automation Modules
I can't get into all of them but I have modules that turn on an off and dim lights. Make my thermostat think that it's hotter than it is in winter or summer to turn on and off based on certain conditions. Say in the winter.. fool it to think that it's hotter than it is during the day and stay off for energy savings while I'm away and then turn off 30 minutes to an hour before I get home and the heat will turn on. In the summer it makes the thermostat think that it's hotter than it is to make sure it's cool inside when I come home.
Other modules turn on/off the my ceiling fan motors and dim the lights. That rocks and I can use them year round. I just have to flip the switch on the fan to reverse the spin. And motion detectors to turn off lights that I've left on after I leave the room.

I want a relay switch connected to my hot water heater to turn off while I'm sleeping and at work and an override for days I'm working for home or have guests over.

    Telephony
  • I use ATT Callvantage VOIP http://callvantage.att.com/ for home phone service. I can make free calls to the US, US Territories, and Canada. And very low rates for international calls

  • Inside I use the Asterisk PBX http://www.asterisk.org for handling calls based on time of day, caller id information, and making calls from home when I'm not at home.

  • Skype http://www.skype.com for calls to friends and family who use skype. I'm in the process of purchasing a Skypebox. It's a box that lets you use skype over your existing home phone telephone wiring. It plugs into my home automation server that is running skype 24/7 and another end connects to the phone line. You need to dial special commands like #*# and then a preset speed dial to dial out using skype and calls coming in ring normally on your phones with skype caller id.

  • Free World Dialup (FWD) http://www.freeworlddialup.com/ Another Voip product. All my FWD calls are sent thru Asterisk and ring normally on my home phones. Also I have numbers from arround the world that ring to my FWD number and then get forwarded to Asterisk. I have a number setup in Washington State 360-488-0822 and one in the United Kingdom +44-871-3093242. My FWD Number is 668650. Feel free to call me

  • The phone punchdown will be converted to a leviton cat5 punchdown where I will terminate each telephone jack to an FXS port on a Xia 308. This way each telephone can be using a different line out to dial and I can finally have my fax on it's own extension and automatically answer on the first ring because it will always be a fax going to that extension.

    Video
I use a simple central video distribution panel where all my inputs and outputs are in one place. One neat thing that I have in place is a channel modulator. I have security and recorder and live tv from my PVR broadcasted on two unused cable channels. Ring the doorbell and I turn the channel to see who's at the door.

  • Bi-directional Amplifier For My Cableboxes

  • 1 in 2 out RF Splitter/Combiner

  • Two-Channel Modulator

  • Data
Cat5e wiring to a 110 Punchdown going to a 100Mb Switch. Crossover cable from 100Mb Switch to a Gigabit Switch that's 1000Mb. From Gigabit switch Cat6 server that has a Gigabit Ethernet card inside. Technically Cat5e is rated at gigabit speeds but I just wanted to max it out while I could afford it.

    Audio

    • Cheap Whole House FM transmitter broadcasts music and announcements from the server to FM radios on my own radio frequency. It solved a $1000 speaker nightmare.
    • Logitech Squeezebox Duet This was my first foray into the world of Networked Streamed Music Players. So far so good.
    • JVC UX-N1W Micro Component Audio System I have 3 of these playing music and speech announcements sent over the audio output on my server via a fm transmitter.
    • MPD or the Music Player Daemon. Not only does mpd allow me to play music controlled via my home automation, but It's also streams the output as well to my icecast server so I can listen to my music that is at home.. while I'm at work. The output is also networked via Pulse Audio so I now have multi-sourced, multi-roomed whole house audio

    Security
Can't tell you everything, but there are cameras, motion detectors, and other sensors and they all integrate with my security system and home automation system.

    Future
    Biometric Door Locks
    Complete X10 HVAC
Individual Room Temp Monitoring.. to turn fans and/or heat based on occupancy and season with iButtons
    More Security Stuff
    Energy Monitoring
    Irrigation Control
    Plant Watering
