Mac Mini (Mid 2011) Review

I was not impressed by the speed of my recently acquired Mac Mini. With the onboard 2GB of ram loading Mail and a few tabs in Chrome and it was a slow spinning beach volleyball match.

I banished the mini to Hulu Desktop duty underneath my tv. I decided to get more ram and within an instant boom, Macbook Air boot speeds, and Hulu Desktop loaded in a second. It's very snappy now and almost i7 like speeds. I can definitely feel a difference between the i5 and i7, but I'm happy for now :-)

Lion appears to be very memory intensive, almost as if the entire OS is resident in ram . I'd be surprised if it is. If you don't need to upgrade to Lion then I wouldn't.
